An original loquat leaf-dyed furoshiki cloth. Put your creativity to the test and make your very own one-of-a-kind dyed textile! You can only experience this fascinating program here in Tomiura, Minamiboso, one of Japan’s largest loquat production regions.
Loquat leaves have been used since ancient times both as a healthy tea and as medicine. To make dye, loquat leaves are gradually heated over fire to produce a liquid. Cloth that is immersed in this liquid turns a unique shade of pastel pink, just like a loquat fruit. It is very easy to dye patterns onto fabric, however this produces results whereby no two patterns are ever alike. Try your hand at making your very own wonderful dyed textile, one that reflects your tastes as an individual. You can take your finished work home with you on the day.

Boshu-biwa are a specialty of Minamiboso. With the taste of early summer, these large and juicy loquats have been presented to the Imperial Family every year since 1909. In recent years, loquat leaves have been attracting much attention for their health benefits.
